The 8 2 is a step above its predecessor the 7 2, or the worst hand in poker, but only by a squeak. This hand still won’t flop a straight, and is basically good for nothing unless by some stretch the flop comes 2 2 8. Even when you flop trips with the 8s or 2s, if you see action it can be clear that you kicker isn’t going to cut the mustard. Beyond all that, though, this hand is just about as horrible as it gets. There is no value in playing this online poker without totally intending to try to run over your opponent. I’ve played in games, though, where guys loved nothing more than taking hands like 2 8 into raising and reraising situations. As much as a badge of honor for being bold with garbage, some guys are just sure that you are playing AK and that all they have to do is flop a pair and they are good to go against whatever you’ve got. Which can be true to some extentevery unpaired hand has the same ability to make a pair. But running with too much steam with a 2 8 can get you trapped, and quickly. It is not a online poker hand meant in the long run to make you money.
